Watch this artist build a portrait of Robin Williams using hundreds of Rubik’s Cubes.Hayward, CA.
Pete Fecteau inspires us with his creativity once again as he unveils a new artwork. The 31yearold San Francisco Bay Area artist has created a stunning tribute to Robin Williams using 600 repurposed Rubik’s Cubes. The cubes were donated to Fecteau from an anonymous donor.
“I had a fan contact me and say that they had some cubes they wanted to donate. Imagine my surprize when it was almost 700. The day they arrived was the day we lost Robin and I just had to do something.”
Fecteau has done more than just something. His close friend Brigid Horgan, an art teacher for the Portola Valley School District, had a student who was enamoured with Fecteau’s art and asked if there was a way the two could meet. Fecteau invited the student, Dan Pastushkov, to come over to his studio and help him build the mosaic from start to finish.
In the two minute video (https://vimeo.com/112212778), follow along as Fecteau and his young apprentice create a digital template then configure the 600 cubes needed to complete the image. The end result is a compelling portrait of Williams sporting his signature goofy grin.
Fecteau’s pixel inspired style captures nuanced emotions in an enigmatic and youthful media, a proper portrait for such an inspiring and entertaining man.
The best part? Fecteau is auctioning the artwork for charity. 100% of the proceeds will be split between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The auction runs for one week starting at 8:00am on Monday, Nov 24th. Watch and bid on this one of a kind piece of fine art at: https://goo.gl/IBvtpl
