As if completing a Rubik’s Cube in 6.88 seconds was not impressive enough, Feliks decided that he would go ahead do it with one hand and obliterate the old World Record, shaving off 1.39 seconds. He performed this amazing cubing feat at the 2015 Canberra Autumn open which was held on the 9th and 10th of May. Far from being a one event competitor Feliks also came first in 9 out of the 15 events at the competition.
Feliks is one of the most highly respected competitors in Speed Cubing and holds a national record in almost every WCA (World Cubing Association) event, along with now 2 world records.
With the World Championship coming up later on this year, Feliks (who is the current World Champion) is one of favourites to take home the prize. In 2013 Feliks only just beat Mats Valk of the Netherlands to the top spot. At the time Mats was the World Record holder for the 3x3 Rubik’s Cube solve, but was beaten on the day by Feliks. Since 2013 the 3x3 World Record has also fallen, this time to American Collin Burns who completed the Cube in 5.25 seconds. This throws the competition wide open as to who will win in São Paulo, Brazil on the 17th to the 19th of July. For more information on the upcoming World Championships check out the website.
