I recently solved the only puzzle i have never been able to solve, which was the alexanders star, which is to me, the most difficult puzzle i have. So post the puzzle that you found to be the hardest puzzle to solve.

Alexander Star is a really complicated dodecahedron puzzle. It's like a... I dunno, 5D star?

A megaminx is a dodecahedron, too! are they the same?

square-1 for me. it changes shape and can get permutation parity.  took me days to first solve it without help

and isnt the alexanders star and edges-only megaminx, making it easier? ive never tried an alexanders star though, so i could be missing something

yes technically an alexander's star is the equivelant of solving a six-colored megaminx

yes, an alexander's star is a 6 colored edges only megaminx, but i just found the concept to be challenging for me, lol,

Unfortunately, I only have up to a 4x4, which I can solve, but I hope to get a 5x5, alexander's star, 6x6,7x7, and megaminx.

my friends dad gave me his, along with all of his other old puzzles, but it came out in 1982, so it wont be easy to find, but i highly recomend ebay, they will probably go for 15 to 30 US dollars.

Now that I am able to solve the 5x5x5 cube I am steering towards saying that it was the hardest puzzle to solve of my 3x3x3, 4x4x4 and 5x5x5, especially considering that I solved it by myself without the help of walkthroughs like I did with the previous two cubes... I would agree with this statement... the first time that I tried to solve it and eventually did but now it is "easy"...

It is still actually very challenging and takes much longer to do than my other cube solves at just under 20 mins but to be honest I find the 4x4x4 harder to do... Not the first bit but I cannot remember the parity algorithms so I am not really solving it by myself... I have to have my notes next to me when I solve it... where as I can do the 5x5x5 without notes as I solve it using my knowledge from my previous two cubes... which is tough in itself...

So... I would say that the 5x5x5 is the more challenging in general but the 4x4x4 parity algorithms are impossible to remember

I'd have to go with the skewb. Every possible move twists half the puzzle making it harder to isolate the pieces.

Here's one I haven't solved yet:
http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/Applets/Magic%20Polyhedra/dodeca_e2.htm

It has 30 axes of rotation, only twists 180, and each possible twist rotates an entire half of the puzzle, making it EXTREMELY difficult to isolate individual pieces.
